## Where AI clearly saves time

**Rewording text**. Make an email more professional, shorten a paragraph, change the tone. Factor 3-5x faster than writing it yourself.

**First drafts**. Blog post, proposal, process description. You write the prompt, the AI delivers a raw version, you polish. Typically 2-3x faster than starting from a blank page.

**Structuring and summarizing**. Meeting transcript into bullet points, long report into three sentences, 50-page PDF into key claims.

**Learning and explaining**. "Explain concept X to me like I'm 15", "Why does technology Y work". Better than Wikipedia for first orientation.

**Code boilerplate**. Writing a regex, a script skeleton, a config file. For developers it's 10x+ on the boring parts.

## Where AI slows you down

**Simple tasks under 5 minutes**. Drafting a single sentence, making a decision. Typing the prompt, reading the AI output, correcting it takes longer than just doing it.

**Critical decisions**. Contracts, hiring, finances. AI can show patterns, the decision stays with you. A fast AI answer suggests certainty that isn't there.

**When you don't know what you want**. AI doesn't replace your thinking, it amplifies your output. Unclear prompt = unusable answer, no matter how often you re-ask.

**Specialist topics where you can't validate the result**. Medicine, law, finance without a second source is dangerous.

## Rule of thumb

Before each prompt ask yourself: What is the concrete task. What is the output. How will I check that it's right. If all three are clear, AI is worth it. If not, think first without AI.

## Congrats

You finished Level 1. Level 2 builds on that and shows you how to work productively with AI. Chain-of-Thought, system prompts, rolling context.
